Every hour one person is taken by melanoma – the most dangerous form of skin cancer. “More Than Skin Deep” is the informative, engaging and emotional story of skin cancer in America as told by patients, families, doctors, researchers, nurses, advocates and educators. The premise of the film is that skin cancer is a complex medical and social issue that is both biological and behavioral. To that end, the film examines the patient, treatment and research aspects of the disease as well as its cultural, historical and social facets.
 Sandy Hawley is the greatest Canadian jockey ever born. With over 6400 wins to his credit, this clean-cut kid from Oshawa, Ontario, has been called the Crown Prince of the sport of Kings. Hawley was 16 and 105 pounds when he quit school, obsessed by horse racing. In his first year of riding, he won North Americas top apprentice award as well as the mantle of Canadas leading jockey, a title he held for six straight years. But Sandy Hawleys most significant race has been not on the back of a thoroughbred, but against virulent skin cancer. Told 19 years ago that he only had months to live, he has battled melanoma with experimental drugs, diet, prayer and determination. The Gentleman Jockey includes footage never seen before. Its the story of a champion, both on and off the track. |

With 30 million Americans visiting tanning salons each year, the FDA is holding a hearing to propose new restrictions. Elaine Quijano reports on one melanoma survivor’s story and her tanning history.
Head and neck surgery is a diverse regional subspecialty, whose central focus is treatment of oncologic disorders of the neck. “Neck dissection is relevant to treatment of such disorders as squamous cell cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract, tongue cancer, laryngeal cancer, thyroid cancer, salivary gland cancer, and skin cancers of the head/neck region, including melanoma,” explained William I. Kuhel, MD, the Director of the Head and Neck Service, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and Associate Professor of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology at Weill Cornell Medical School. |

PART 2 I made a tour of Bennington College for my grandmother to view upon my return home after graduating. She was sick with pancreatic cancer, and as such could not come to my college graduation in 2008 and had never been to my school in my four years there. Sadly, she passed away before seeing it. So here it is, in four parts, years later.
This is my very first video. It’s a memorial tribute to my Mom who we lost to pancreatic cancer on December 27, 2006 — exactly 3 months to the day we first found out she was ill. I still cannot believe any of it. I love and miss her so much. |
