The advent of NOTES (Natural Orifice Trans En Surgery) and LESS (Laparo Endoscopic Single Site Surgery) has re-invigorated the surgical community to a degree unseen since the introduction of laparoscopic cholecystectomy some two decades ago. While NOTES has great potential, widespread use is probably a decade or more away, barring an as yet unforeseen technologic breakthrough. LESS, on the other hand, holds great promise as a current approach, not just for the future. However, aspects of LESS approaches for colorectal resection are problematic due to the complexity of colorectal procedures. With this in mind, we have approached the operation using a variation of LESS which we have termed no visible scar colectomy. This technique and surgical approach will be discussed.

Troubles continue at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear-power complex since earthquake and tsunami crippled its cooling systems. Japan’s nuclear safety agency says an explosion has been heard at Unit 2 of the country’s stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear-power plant. An agency spokesman said on national television that the explosion was heard at 6:10am local time (21:10 GMT) on Tuesday. The troubles at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant began when a massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan’s northeast on Friday knocked out power, crippling cooling systems needed to keep nuclear fuel from melting down. A second explosion rocked the complex on Monday, sending a plume of smoke into the air but the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that the reactor had not been damaged. The World Health Organisation said there was a minimal public heath risk. However, Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO), the power company that runs the nuclear plant, said later on Monday that fuel rods at one of the reactors had become fully exposed again, meaning the water being pumped in to cool the reactors is evaporating due to the heat. Japanese nuclear officials worked to quell concerns and announced the distribution of 230000 units of stable iodine. Iodine can be used to help protect against thyroid cancer in the case of radioactive exposure. Yukio Edano, Japan’s chief cabinet secretary, said that a large-scale radiation leak was unlikely. A new cancer treatment center at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in DuPage County offers hope for patients who cannot have tumors surgically removed. The CyberKnife Center of Chicago enabled 80-year old Rose Salatino of Algonquin to go through a painless cancer treatment without general anesthesia for her lung cancer. Because Salatino has a previous lung condition, she could not undergo conventional surgery with anesthesia for her cancer. The CyberKnife uses computer-guided technology to target tumors precisely. Then it delivers small but high-dose radiation beams from different angles while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. As a result, Salatino was able to get up and walk away normally after each of three treatment. The CyberKnife is available at three other centers in the Chicago area. We spoke with Jonathan Links, an expert in radiation health sciences. He is a professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. Professor Links says workers within the nuclear plant are the only people at risk of extremely high doses of radiation. For other people, he says, there may be a long-term worry. People can get cancer from low doses of ionizing radiation, the kind released in a nuclear accident. Professor Links says scientists can use computers to quickly model where radioactive material has blown and settled. Then they measure how large an area is contaminated. He says if the situation is serious enough, officials could take steps like telling people not to eat locally grown food or drink the water. But he said that would only be the case if there was a major release of radiation. This is my little guy that would always sing to me in his own little way whenever he would hear a high pitch sound. Little Dudley died on January 11, 2009 of a bladder cancer tumor. The Province is recommending pharmacists no longer dispense the potassium iodide pills. Most pharmacists now require a prescription for the drug, once available over the counter. An earthquake kit containing the bare essentials; food, water purification tablets, and basic medicals supplies sells for about 35 dollars, if you can find one. Retailers can’t keep up with demand. Martin receiving radiotherapy – two green lasers are used to align my body (using four tattoos on my chest lower abdomen and thighs) then after alignment the nurses must leave the irradiation area they dim the lights and the x-ray machine (10MV) delivers five fractions of radiation to my abdomen. In December 2007 (aged 53) I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the prostate. My PSA was 13.6 staging was T2c N0 M0 and my Gleason score was 4+4=8. I had a radical retropubic prosatectomy February 2008. Three months later my PSA was still high indicating the cancer was still present and had spread. A tumour was found in my abdominal lymph system. I started radiotherapy in spring of 2009 (attending 5 weeks (25 days) at Royal Preston) and it was one of the most depressing times of my cancer treatment – each day for five weeks I was reminded I had (probably) incurable cancer.

One Year On – A story of living with Prostate Cancer, a frank, personal account of my first year of treatment. Since I have joined youtube I have had numerous people talking about white people and skin cancer. They refuse to believe people with melanin can get skin cancer. When in fact it is deadliest in darker skinned people then lighter skinned. Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation brought amazing joy into 12-year-old Jeffrey’s life by providing him a unique Bear Hug. Jeffrey was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in January this year. Though treated at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, he has been homebound for most of his treatment. Jeffrey had decided he wanted to meet Chicago Blackhawk Patrick Kane and touch the Stanley Cup. Imagine belonging to a community where neighbors, friends and loved ones were all diagnosed with cancer. In 2008 the Ohio Department of Health reported that Ottawa County had the highest incidence of cancer in the nation. Midway through 2010, cancer cases are popping up in the county, including Port Clinton. Maria Claus Konoff, who has thyroid cancer, held a meeting Wednesday looking for community support in the city. Konoff is trying to find out why cancer is striking so many county residents. She is trying to find answers.

Sam Phillips obtained the rights and he released “Trouble Bound” b/w “Rock With Me Baby” on September 1, 1956 (Sun 245). This video is about a family that is faced with a very difficult journery. Both their parents, Leonard and Glorie recently found out they have cancer. The father has a type of G cell cancer and the mother recently discovered that she has …stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Also, Glorie’s father has cancer. All three of them are going through treatment. How 3 children are expected to deal with this is beyond me. I learned about this family through my friend Debbie who has been best friends with Glorie for 31 years. Their families are very close. Debbie and I have decided the best thing we can do is to set up a fund to help these children with their futures by asking people to contribute to a fund we have set in place for them. I created this video with pictures sent to me from Debbie. At the end of it, I have included the information as to how one can donate. Alicia Alice Pearce (October 16, 1917 March 3, 1966) was an American actress. Brought to Hollywood by Gene Kelly to reprise her Broadway performance in the film version of On the Town (1949), Pearce played comedic supporting roles in several films, before being cast as Gladys Kravitz in Bewitched in 1964. She won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series posthumously after the second season of the series. She died from ovarian cancer in 1966. George Tobias (July 14, 1901 February 27, 1980) was an American character actor. Born to a Jewish family in New York, he began his acting career at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California. He then spent several years in theater groups before moving on to Broadway and, eventually, Hollywood. In 1939, Tobias signed with Warner Brothers, where he played in supporting roles, many times along with James Cagney, in such movies as Cagney’s Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) as well as with Gary Cooper in Sergeant York (1941). Tobias later achieved fame in the 1960s by playing long-suffering neighbor Abner Kravitz on the TV sitcom Bewitched. George Tobias never married and retired from acting in 1977 after a guest role in the Bewitched sequel Tabitha. My 1st Geocache find after losing my right eye!! This was my first time out hiking and geocaching after I had my eye removed 9 days ago. I was diagnosed with a large Melanoma Tumer in my right eye and they couldn’t save it.

I would also like to thank him for letting me take pictures and video of the eye making process. I lost my right eye on August 28th “2009″ due to Ocular Melanoma (Cancer). The tumor was to large for radiation, so it was removed to get rid of all the cancer. I’m cancer free for now and I hope to stay that way for the future. I’ve learned that losing an eye isn’t the end of the world like I first thought it would be. I’m back to doing everything I was doing before this happened to me. I’ll hopefully be placing a geocache soon that will be about Eye Cancer awareness. Get your eyes checked yearly if you don’t already do it!! Please don’t post any rude or stupid comments on this video or I’ll have to delete them.

George VI (Albert Frederick Arthur George) was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth from 11 December 1936 until his death. He was also the last Emperor of India (until 22 June 1948), the last King of Ireland (until 18 April 1949), and the first Head of the Commonwealth. As the second son of King George V, he was not expected to inherit the throne and spent his early life in the shadow of his elder brother, Edward. He served in the Royal Navy during World War I, and after the war took on the usual round of public engagements. He married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1923, and they had two daughters, Elizabeth (who succeeded him as Queen Elizabeth II) and Margaret.
